Site Plan | Floor Plans | Exterior | Interior This proposed new facility will be located at the Mahackeno property owned by the Westport Weston Family Y - and home to the Y's summer camp. Mahackeno is a 32-acre tract of land in Westport bound by Sunny Lane, Lees Pond, Rice's Lane and the Merritt Parkway. Its location makes it more easily accessible to its entire Westport Weston service area. The new building, parking area and surrounding grounds will only use about 6 acres of the 32-acre site, leaving the balance as open space. The site plan places the building at the northeast corner of the property adjacent to the Merritt Parkway, and does so in a manner that leverages the naturally sloping terrain to maximum effect. As a result, with the planned two-story building, only one story will be visible from the Merritt Parkway or as you approach the building on Sunny Lane and the building will not be visible from Rice's Lane. The facility planned for Mahackeno will deliver expanded services to children, tweens, teens, adults and seniors through Child Care, Camp and School Age, Aquatics, Fitness, Sports & Recreation programming as well as membership-oriented activities. It will include a family swimming pool, a larger fitness center and flexible multi-purpose space. In addition to accommodating the new building, this location will allow the Family Y to upgrade its camp, creating a vastly improved, consolidated facility that will provide year-round access to and public use of beautiful open space that is now enjoyed primarily by campers in the summer.
Because the senior staff of the Family Y is committed to delivering programming, activities and services to meet the needs of a diverse community, these professionals have been closely involved with the planning and development of the new Y and what they have imagined is marvelous. In addition to a lap pool, consider a warm-water pool with a lazy river and a slide for family fun, as well as a zero-entry section to accommodate members with physical disabilities or who seek physical therapy; two high school basketball courts with spectator seating for parents, courts that can also be used for volleyball, badminton and fencing; an expanded gymnastics facility that will accommodate gymnasts who are taller than sixty-one inches; an above-ground Child Care Center that has a contiguous playground; an enhanced and enlarged fitness center and more room for aerobics and dance classes. And that's inside. At the campgrounds there are walking and hiking trails, outdoor ball fields and Lees Pond for fishing and boating activities. All construction will be done in a manner that preserves and protects the beautiful outdoor environment. The
